We just moved into a heritage house that was built in 1912. I recently noticed something carved into the glass of one of the windows in our living room. It’s a signature and a date–May 25, 1941 1914:
I can’t make out the signature. But if it is indeed from 1914, it’s a charming footnote of the house.
Could it be the glazier’s own hand?
1941 or 1914?
Pretty cool find!
Looked at the uber high res – that definitely says 1914.. crazy!
How charming! In the home of my childhood, formerly a sea captain’s house on the Atlantic coast, several of the windows were marked with the same sort of flowing script – names of those who’d lived there. These signatures are as creepy as they are lovely. You’ve lucked out.
Wow. Gorgeous.
HW Seury?
could be a nice illustration on Hamingway’s “A Farewell to Arms” cover!:)
