From the LA area, we find a fantastic new model in taxi/chaffeur service: Home James. If you’ve driven to a party, had a few drinks, now you’ve got a new alternative to get home. Instead of driving drunk, or hoping you can get a cab, you just call Home James. A guy named James (they all go by that name) drives up in a fold-away scooter, puts it in the back of your car, and drives you and your car home. All for US $30 an hour.
I’ve rarely tried to get a cab in LA, but I figure this service would thrive in a number of European cities where cabs are scarce. In Dublin, for example, you may literally wait for hours to get a cab when the pubs close. More importantly, drinking and driving is rampant in Ireland, and Home James might be a socially-acceptable way to curb that trend.
they have that service in victoria too, i can’t remember what it’s called, but it’s not much more then the price of a cab. very convenient, and give no one an excuse to drink and drive. not that there ever is one.
