Now here’s a cause I can get behind. Apparently Tampax recently re-architected their tampon, and Airdrie isn’t happy. Here’s an illustrative photo of the old and new model side-by-side. I can’t imagine why she didn’t dye the water blue, as in every feminine hygiene commercial I’ve ever seen.
Airdrie started a lobby group on Facebook to ‘New Coke’ Tampax, and invited me. If she’s successful, maybe they’ll release the old model as ‘Classic Tampax’.
I’m not what you’d call a heavy tampon user (insert off-colour joke here), but I’m always glad to support a little consumer advocacy. Fight the power, and so forth.

I use the Diva Cup. It is fine. But I have endometriosis, and on painful days the tampax are just the right fit. Plus the Diva Cup turns public washrooms into crime-scenes. I’m sure this is TMI for men, but whatever.

I’m with Airdrie’s last comment and, on the occasions that I do use tampons, I will now give the new ones a try: they look like they have a more reasonable approach to moisture retention (rather than the fuzzing sort of thing you can see in the photo of the old style), and, a more logical expansion method.
Bring on the new, I say!!
I agree with Wendy on alternatives. They can be quite pricey but Natracare makes tampons that don’t involve chlorine in the process, which makes me feel a whole lot better. Plus they’re organic and compostable. Not quite as good as something reusable, but a decent compromise.
