Last week, somewhere, I read about Commentful, a service that enables you to monitor blog posts for new comments. This comes in handy because I probably leave five comments a day on other people’s blogs, and if I want to see follow-ups, I either have to leave the windows open, or remember to check back. With its lightweight Firefox plug-in, Commentful seems to be solving this problem:
Commentful is a service that watches comments/follow-ups on Blog posts, Digg submissions, Flickr pictures, and many other types of content. When ever there is an update, such as a new follow-up or comment, Commentful notifies you instantly.
It’s not exactly feature-rich at the moment, but it does what it says on the box. On someone’s recommendation, I’d tried coComment about six months ago, but I had some technical issues with it (something about Flickr integration, if I recall correctly). coComment certainly does more than Commentful, but I’ll stick with the latter for the time being.
I’m still enjoying coComment. My only real issue with them is you can’t disabled the plugin sitewide (ie. for all of Flickr). You can only disable it for individual pages, which is a hassle.
If blogs you visit are powered by WordPress (like mine), they can get a plug-in that lets you subscribe to comments. Of course, that’s on their end and not yours.
This is off-topic. Just happened upon your blog and have been marvelling at how many articles and sites you have commented on that I had also read or read about. Kinda freaked me out a little. Then I settled into thinking it was somehow reassuring.
Seems like you’d appreciate a site that I love LUV to travel to now and then. Check out magnuminmotion.com
Gotta bookmark you now.
Am glad to have found you.
Thanks for the tip.
Oh, and check the spam above.
Ok – my first stab at Commentful!
Fingers Crossed!
🙂
I tried Commentful’s bookmarklet, and redirects offend me 😉 I actually lost a comment because I expecting the coComment behavior of adding monitoring without refreshing or redirecting.
Andrew Ferguson, I complained about that very issue with not wanting Flickr to be coCommented in July. I have not tried the plugin again, but based on your feedback it sounds like it is still an issue.
Just thought I would chip in – Commentful is ours, and will be updated in the next 24-48 hours.
In regards to bookmarklet – try the FF extension – right click and track, nothing in your want.
