When I parsed all the data I collected in my Why Do You Blog survey (still need to find time to publish the numbers), one thing I was surprised about was how few people said they blogged in order to entertain others. Though I don’t often succeed, making my readers smile or laugh (either with what I write, or what I link to) is essential to why I blog, and why I keep blogging.
Of course, without you, my dear readers, there wouldn’t be anybody to attempt to amuse. So, whether this is the first post you’ve read, or the three thousandth, thank you so much for coming by. Without you, this site would just be the sad, random musings of some dude in his pajamas. I guess it’s still that, but at least I’m not lonely.
One respondent to my survey said “the comments are like crack.” That’s true, so I specifically wanted to recognize those that leave a lot of comments. I can thank Chris for this idea, and for pointing me toward the WordPress plugin that makes it possible. These are the 25 most prolific commenters over the last three months, with their number of comments beside their name:
- Derek K. Miller (46)
- Chris (32)

Some of my favourite readers found me through you, so thank you. I enjoy your blog thoroughly, and only skip commenting when I know I’ll sound like an ignorant dumbass.
Thanks for writing.
Fourth most prolific commenter? I’m so . . . embarrassed.
*You’re* embarrassed? In the survey period, I’ve left more comments here than some people have made actual posts on their own blogs. That on top of the various blogs and other online updates I publish myself.
I need to get out more.
P.S. It looks like your web server hasn’t updated to Daylight Savings Time yet.
eleven! i mean, thanks. 🙂 i started reading your blog when i found out about you going to malta, i think… caught it from patrick (i.never.nu), who’s been reading you forever.
Thanks for the link love. 🙂
Wow, I’ve never made the top 10. anywhere. ever before. Looks like Meg is trying to grab my spot, hence this comment.
Derek: 2 comments per post, now we see how you did it. Sadly, I’m afraid I may have posted more comments here than articles on my own blog in the same time frame (in my defense, it usually takes less thought :-).
I’m just starting to understand how important Google page rank is to the life of a blog, so like Andrea, I thank you.
Like Andy K, I’m honoured to be in the top 10! I wish blogger had this function so I could see who my top commenters are!
Thank You
