Monique already took the good title–‘Made to Break Needs a Break’. This is the second time she’s written with passion about this book (here’s the first):
It’s fascinating to think about the origins of branding and packaging, how clever we were at creating repetitive demand, how we sat around dreaming up ways to encourage disposability of things–some of which I greatly appreciate like sanitary pads and tampons, bathroom tissue and bandaids but also of consumer electronics, automobiles and clothes.
I haven’t read it, but it sounds just like the sort of non-fiction book I’d like to read. Monique thinks it deserves a larger readership. I’ll buy a copy. That’s, uh, one more.
Yahooooo!
This book is really great. I’m learning about the history of FM radio right now and the back-stabbing that went on among inventors for FM radio and TV. They thought FM was a direct competition for TV, which wasn’t yet on the market. There’s all sorts of info about how the current band frequencies for FM radio came about.
