Periods Make All the Difference on the Web

As the CBC Unplugged site reports, the folks at the head office made a teensy, weensy error in their full-page ads in national newspapers.

The CBC ad told people to go to when, in fact, the address is The difference is only a period, but it’s a big deal on the Internet. And a common mistake among people who aren’t that familar with the web.

The CBC paid $500 to one (heh) Ebenezer Thevasagayam to buy the URL. Frankly, they’re lucky he didn’t hold them ransom for $50,000. Triple-check your URLs, people.

  1. And these are the people whom we’re supposed to trust to make wise financial decisions about the CBC? They just keep shooting themselves in the foot, over and over.
