A Watershed Event at Tonight’s Party

Tonight I was at a Christmas party. On two occasions, I was talking to normal, non-techie humans who, unbidden by me, used the term ‘blog’. That’s got to be a mainstream touchstone–when you hear the term at a party, it’s arrived. One, a wool maker, said that “so many knitters are also bloggers”. The other, in a discussion of gigolos, referred to the famous (and now defunct) blog by a London call girl, Belle de Jour.

On an unrelated note, I met a guy (of European ancestry) with a name I’d never heard before. Though it may break rule #4 of my child naming rules, I really dug it. His name was Pax. Which, of course, means peace in Latin. I suppose it’s a touch hippy-dippy, but not nearly as bad as, say, River or Sunshine. It’s short, meaningful, unusual without being freakish and easy to pronounce and (more or less) spell.

  1. There’d be more of us if it was possible to knit and blog at the same time! My blog output (would that be blogput?) has fallen since I started knitting – not that it was great to begin with.
