I’ve got strong opinions on this whole podcasting business, but we’ll save that for when I’ve got some extra cycles in my higher thought processes. For now, let me direct you to a great site featuring excellent, regular pocasts. Every couple of days, Brian posts a series of cover songs with commentary at Coverville. Currently I’m listening to his all-Beatles covers special. I wonder, will he include something from the excellent Beatles go Baroque (I originally mentioned this album here)? Thanks to Richard for the tip on Coverville. He commented on my recent reference to that top-50 list from the Daily Telegraph.

I initially downloaded a couple episodes of Adam Curry’s little meta-podcasting piece “Daily Source Code.” It’s lightweight and something I can listen to on the commute to work when I can’t figure out what I want to listen to as far as music.
Podcasting is interesting, but the problem with it is that it feels a little bit like Pirate Radio from years back… people just starting up shows with illegal trasmitters, and never knowing if they’re getting any listeners… doing it just to do it, under the theory that they’re taking back the air waves or something.
The downside of pirate radio style sound is that it’s REALLY unprofessional and tends to sound like a bunch of kids chatting on a sleepover… no rhyme, no reason, and a lot of sudden volume changes.
Coverville is a recent find, and I really do like it – very professionally put together. Daily Source Code is good for finding other shows as well – he pimps some pretty good stuff.
Hey, you don’t happen to need bodies to volunteer at Northern Voice, do you? Email me if you need techs that have worked with FatPort before, etc.
Thanks for that, Richard. We will indeed be looking for some volunteers. I’ve added you to the list, and we’ll probably contact you in the new year.
