I frequently disparage the current advertising campaign of the Vancouver International Airport. Some ad agency had the exceptionally-stupid idea of encouraging people to come out to the airport not because they’re going somewhere, but because they just want to shop. I forget the slogan, but it’s deeply idiotic.
However, today I arrived from the Cariboo with three hours to kill and a wedding to attend very near the airport. I hung out, browsed, used the exorbitantly-expensive Wifi (when are we going to see competitive price wars for the Wifi dollar in public spaces?) at $8/hour, stared at Bill Reid’s beautiful art and watched my traveling companion get her hair done. While I would never volunteerarily (doh) voluntarily spend an extra second of my life at any airport, there are worse places to do it than YVR.
“Volunteerarily”, eh? I think you just made up a new word 😉
Hey, at $8 an hour, who can afford accuracy? (There is also the use of “browser” in place of “browsed.”)
