Via Slashdot, we learn that the same people who are making you sit through still more advertising before movies earned more than a $1 billion in the month of June. This is a new record for the industry, and a 37% improvement on 2001 numbers. They must really be taking it on the chin from those pesky intellectual property pirates. If this trend continues, they might have to purchase additional McDuckesque vaults to keep all their coin. Keep these numbers in mind the next time you hear anybody from the MPAA winge about piracy.
Pity the Poor Movie Industry

The most offensive kind of pre-movie advertising has to be the kind that wags a paternal finger at the audience and warns them not to pirate movies. That’s right – after you pay for your undelivered service, you’re told not to steal it. It makes me actually *want* to download something, but that’s just whatever’s left of my rebellious streak talking.
