Why Am I Familiar with This Video?

I just saw this video on Boing Boing, and it awoke some deep-seated memory that predates my use of the Internet. I feel like, as a child or teenager, I saw this repeatedly on television. Do any Vancouverites, British Columbians or Canadian recognize it? Was it maybe in rotation on MuchMusic?

  1. A more polished version of this was a fave vid in the early days of Mushmusic. And this dude used to to live events and talk shows back in the mid-to-late 80s.

  2. YouTube sent me some clues like the artist’s name (Denny Dent) that might jog your memory. Here’s his site.

He’s moderately famous, and has certainly been on TV. I actually remembered enough about this guy to recall the phrase “Art Attack”, but that cliche is sufficiently widespread that googling it was unuseful.

  3. I also remember seeing him on “That’s Incredible” or a similar show some time in the 80s.

  4. OMG – I remember that video! It did make a regular appearance on Much in the mid-late eighties… I don’t think it was aired as a video as such, but, if I remember correctly, it was used as filler at the end of programmes.

  5. Boing Boing identifies it as being part of the movie “Monterey Pop”.

It’s also supposed at the beginning of “Jimmy Plays Monterey”. Same director and presumably just the Hendrix footage from the concert; though whether the art footage is in both films or just the Hendrix-centric one, I’m not sure (having seen neither).
