Yesterday I was reminded of a Tori Amos song I really dig. It’s called “She’s Your Cocaine”, and is this weird, sexy rocker from the Queen of Oddness.
I wondered if there was a video for the song, and searched YouTube. All I found was this bizarre fan-made video that combines a live verison of the song with some crazy Japanese anime called Beyblade. The result is too weird not to share:
That said, I prefer the studio version, because Tori’s more in tune, and there’s this cool outro bit where she mutters ‘cut it again’ at the end of the track. Here’s that version:
I have been a Tori fan for 5 years and I think that Anime will never suit her. There are so many good fan videos out there in Youtube but some are really crap for crap sake!
I’ve seen that anime video thing before (88 lines about 44 women: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hE1i2zLG9yY). Either there’s a lot of kids mixing their favorite anime scenes with odd music, or some music pirates obfuscating their favorite songs.
But both explanations seem off. In the first case the music doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the anime, nor would I expect it to be known to your typical anime fan. In the second case, why keep the song title where the music industry henchmen could find it?
Andy: I think you’re making some suppositions about anime fans and the content of the shows. Regardless, I don’t think it’s this kind of usage that really keeps music companies up at night. In fact, these fan-built projects function as advertisements for the music.
