My friends Katrina, Trina and Rose are raising money for Lifewater Canada (oy, they should call us for a new website), to build a well in Africa:
One-fifth of people on earth do not have access to safe drinking water. Every 15 seconds a child dies from drinking bad water. In Canada, we are blessed with an abundance of fresh water and an infrastructure to provide for this essential need. We would like to do our part to provide the same basic need to others, especially the children.
On our recommendation, they’re using GiveMeaning to gather and organize support for this project. They’re collecting email addresses (indicating support) and pledges on their GiveMeaning project page.
You might also suggest to them that they give ChipIn a try for this project or a future fundraising project — http://www.chipin.com/
changeeverything.ca may be a good place to blog about it as well..there’s fairly motivated community there.
I’ve never heard of Chip In or Give Meaning before and I’m intrigued…I’m trying to raise money for a Arthritis Research by running a marathon in Athens, and they do provide a site where people can donate online, but without the community presence…I wonder if it would be worthwhile posting something to these ones?
Degan: I can’t speak for Chip In, but I like Give Meaning’s model a lot. It certainly can’t hurt.
Thanks Darren for the recommendation. James, the difference between ChipIn and GiveMeaning is that GiveMeaning remits 100% of all donations, (even the credit card fees associated with each donation), and can issue tax-deductible receipts. ChipIn can’t issue tax-receipts.
