Over at Geeky Traveller, the folks at Intel sent me a Sony Vaio laptop to try out for a month. I thought it appropriate to record a little video review using the on-board video camera. That’s me, in my bathroom:
If you’ve had enough of me, check out this cracker of a goal.
fantastic audio quality if that’s the built in mic
That is the mic on default settings. I thought it was pretty good, too, though I’m not audio geek.
Darren, you never said why you got the laptop from Intel and not Sony.
I have the SZ120 and love the battery life, which I suspect is probably due to the Intel CoreDuo CPU — in fact it has lasted as long as 4 hours with the wireless turned off. The weight is great for moving around, plunking down just about anywhere and just general transit. The screen definitely rocks as well, it’s so much clearer and brighter when I’ve compared it to other laptops — I suspect it’s a Sony thing.
I agree on the keyboard feeling cheap initially (but don’t notice it anymore) and the size of the power brick is out of proportion for such a light laptop. I had an older VAIO with a *much* smaller power brick but the brick was over 5 years old and it eventually died so back to the big brick.
Can you tell I like my vie-oh? Yes. One thing you may not have experienced yet is the hard-drive protection feature (which is common for most newer laptops). If you shock the hard drive by bumping the laptop or picking it up or dropping it down, while running, then the hard drive parks temporarily and you get a little notification pop-up that your hard drive has been parked. Does this actually help, I don’t know, but I do know that I had to replace my previous VAIO’s hard drive three times in the three years that I owned it — though it did get dropped twice from a chair, while running… so far no hard drive issues with my new VAIO [knocking on wood].
ChrisK: I don’t really know–I guess Intel took an interest in GT or blogger relations or what-have-you.
I did see that hard-drive protection feature–way cool.
FYI, it is pronounced vie-oh (rhymes with “bio”)… it actually said that in the owner’s manual (ya, I read the owner’s manual).
hey how did u record the video. i haf a viao but i haf no idea how to record videos!
