Oh, hang on, I’m already married. Nonetheless, maybe we can all live happily in some kind of polygamist paradise?
I kid. I have, however, recently become totally smitten with this Russian-born, American-raised singer-songwriter. Her voice is reminiscent of Leslie Feist, though the latter is probably a technically stronger singer.
Spektor writes quirky, gorgeous songs like “On the Radio”:
On the radio
We heard November Rain
That solo’s really long
But it’s a pretty song
We listened to it twice
‘Cause the DJ was asleep
That’s off her new album, Begin to Hope, which I’ve been listening to a lot over the past few days. I haven’t heard anything from her earlier three CDs–has anybody else?
You can hear a few songs on her website (love the mix tape aesthetic) or MySpace page.
Ah… I love that cd! My fav is probably “Sampson”
I have “Soviet Kitsch”. I’m not crazy about the whole CD, but “Ghost of Corporate Future” is one of the prettiest songs I’ve ever heard. I first heard it immediately after one of those infrequent moments in one’s life that you realize is tremendously important as you’re living it, and it packaged many of my (admittedly common and cliched) feelings with a splendid melody.
Regina Spektor had a neat “online experience” with SecondLife. They setup a variety of listening areas that looked like loft apartments and people would jump in and listen to her music and chat. I actually made friends with a couple people in SL through the experience.
Also, she has a number of very cool videos on YouTube if you feel so inclined to check them out.
Okay, in one of those odd little coincidences, I finally picked up on a friend’s recommendation from a month or two ago, and after listening to some tracks online bought the CD YESTERDAY and listened to it for the first time TODAY. And then your post. *scratches head*
I’d like to be the first to vote for this girl to do hip hop, this voice with the piano and some producers arrangement in the background has been done enough times, and she obviously enjoys doing voice-play.
Thazzal.
Darren, polygamy is so 2 centuries ago. The new thing is polyamory. it’s free love redux but with rules and better communication. Oh, and no slacking.
Me too. I’m in love, and I’m a 63-year-old guy. I think I’m losing my mind. I haven’t had a woman affect me this way since I was 15 and had it bad for Natalie Wood. Help!
