I’ve always felt that The Shawshank Redemption was both overwritten and overwrought, and a too little Americana for my taste. Don’t get me wrong–it’s a good movie with fantastic acting–just not my favourite. I definitely prefer Stephen King’s original novella, which has a darker tone.
Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed this two-minute rap summary of Shawshank from the funny folks at JibJab (via The Movie Blog).

Heh, that is pretty good! I second you on preferring the novella to the movie. The movie has all this hope and live for the moment stuff. Pfft! The novella is gritty and hard and just shows them slogging through life.
