Reportage From Skate Canada 2006

DSC_0128.JPGMy wife Julie spent the latter half of last week over in Victoria at Skate Canada, one of the major pro-am figure skating events. She took a ton of photos (yes, there are some white balance issues) and posted up a storm on BootandBlade.com, her figure skating blog. These were overhead comments from those sitting around her:

  • From someone's grandmother, as Johnny Weir accepts a bouquet from a fan…, "Oh, I think that's his wife." Come on!
  • On a skater doubling a jump…, "Oh, that was a quad!"
  • "She is completely flat. She has no chest at all."
  • "Oh, I thought that was a woman."
  • "He threw her down on purpose."

I was impressed to hear that Joannie Rochette skated to Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing” (sans lyrics, which are pretty lame anyway). Julie thinks it’s time to modernize the sport’s music and choreography.

Julie also found this amusing post. Apparently Fumie Suguri is ripping off Sasha Cohen’s dresses.
