I love it when technology gets simpler. Sometimes it feels like a step backwards, but often simplifying tweaks make stuff more accessable for the average human. Such is the case, I think, with the computerless email printer (via Neatorama):
This is the color inkjet printer that only requires standard AC power and a telephone line to automatically print spam-free e-mail and pictures from friends and family you designate, eliminating the need for a dedicated personal computer and high-speed internet connection. The low-profile printer calls the toll-free number of the included e-mail service daily, and downloads and prints any new messages, including full-color pictures waiting in your account.
Great for the late adopter or luddite in your life who still wants to receive joke emails or photos of the kids. Mind you, if you set this badboy up for your grandmother, you’d want to make sure the email address had some powerful anti-spam software. I’m pretty sure grandma doesn’t want any emails about “multi-racial nude midgets indulging in midget sex message from Sonia” or whatever.
You obviously don’t know my grandma.
“Multi-racial nude midgets indulging in midget sex message from Sonia”?
You just did that to see what kind of bizarre searches will bring people to your site, didn’t you? 😉
Kirsten: Actually, that was an actual subject line from a recent spam, but, sure, the searches will be fun.
From your quote, it looks like it only receives whitelisted email, i.e. you have to specify which addresses it will accept from. That could lead to some interesting pranks, but by default it should be spam-free if you only enter real family and friends’ addresses.
Hey Darren,
Long time. Just came across a reasonably interesting addition to the computer-free-email-printer concept, called Presto. Presto dot com. Demo video on their homepage is pretty funny stuff.
High fives,
Tim
Hello,
I think this is a great idea, but yeah I think you’d have to come up with 123gkdjnckk;liut@email.com or something like that…maybe that would help with spam.
