I drove past a downtown billboard today, and it said something like:
Telus is just growing, while we’re growing up. Startthebreakup.com.
The campaign is by Shift Networks, who claim to be “the leading provider of Voice over IP (VoIP) phone services to the Canadian small and medium business market.” If you visit the aforementioned URL, you’ll see some little videos (I like the way they start when you mouse over them, but I’m not sure that’s intuitive) aimed squarely at Telus.
Is this a good strategy? Probably. I can’t imagine that Shift has much to lose, and Telus is one of the more hated corporations in the province. On the other hand, demonizing a demon is a pretty obvious marketing strategy.
Wow! I would LOVE to see that billboard 😉 Any chance of snapping a photo and posting it?
cheers,
jules
My question is invest with what money? they have never made a profit and are seriously in danger of bankruptcy. as their 2005 annual report states, and also states that they are in the hole 6.5 million also they only did 800K in revenue and 400k is in expences- so what can you get for 400k- if they are going to blow the whole thing for marketing?
It’s very simple, Steve. You have to spend money to make money.
funny i am looking up crap on Shift to see what there financial status after they layed off 180 people and went into bankruptcy protection mode only to find that Steve called it way back in October. Sure wished i had seen this before I started working for the S**t whole. I probably would have made a different decision. FYI they owe money to everyone.
