My First Email from the Tasmanian Department of Education

I recently received a peculiar but apparently legitimate ‘courtesy email’ from the Tasmanian Department of Education:

This email is to advise you that, the Tasmanian Department of Education, Australia, is developing a pathway planning resource to be used to help students engage in a pathway planning process. http://www.darrenbarefoot.com/hall/ and http://www.darrenbarefoot.com/hall/slides/Front%20Toward%20Enemy.html has been linked as a useful reference for teachers.

The resource is intended for use in association with the Essential Learnings Frameworks to support students from year 8-10 to plan their future. It will be available to all high school and district high schools in Tasmania in printed format and will also be on the Department’s website. The website will be supplied free of charge and is not for profit.

It’s not all that odd, I’ve received a few such requests for educational usage of my photos before (in particular, African animal photos). What is odd, however, is that the second URL they specify points to a photo of a Claymore antipersonnel mine. I guess knowing what one looks like might come in useful, but I’m not sure how much call there is for that kind of information in Tasmania.

  1. Yeah, it is. Who knew Tasmania had a Department of Education?

And what on Earth do they use it for?

(most mainland Aussies speak of Tazzie the way we in Canada speak of Newfoundland)
