Alex is a high school football coach in Washington state. He’d like to find a piece of music that’s frequently used at hockey games. You can hear a section of it in this goofy jock rock mashup. It’s the Pink Floyd-esque guitar riff that begins about 5 or 7 seconds into the song. I definitely recall it being used at Canucks games:

At first I thought it might be “Where the Streets Have No Name” by U2, but that’s not right. Then there was the possibility that it was Van Halen’s “Right Now”, but listening to other snippets of the song on the iTunes store, I don’t think so.
Any guesses?
By the by, if anybody admits to owning “Right Now” by Van Halen, please send it to me. I need to get this frickin’ ear worm out of my head.
UPDATE: Thanks to Chris, who identified the song as ‘Sirius’ by the Alan Parson Project. Thanks also to the reader-who-shall-not-be-named who sent along a rockin’ live version of “Right Now”. The ear worm has left the building.
It’s not really a hockey song – it was the intro music for the Chicago Bulls originally.
The track is called “Sirius”, and is done by the Alan Parsons project.

It’s partly that Gary Glitter song for the beat in the background, and then the guitar riff is from a Metallica song, I think.
Ah, and look how wrong I was:).
Looks like your server’s time is off, Darren – I certainly didn’t post that at 7:50am, as I was sleeping 🙂
Looks like there’s a whole forum section dedicated to “what’s that song?” over at http://www.hockeymusic.ca/forum/
I had checked but it wasn’t on my hockey music compilation CD, “Contact! The All-Star Collection” (now out of print!)
Ya’ll are wrong. It really is “Where The Streets Have No Name” by U2. After much music experimentation, conclusion is the above. Hockey rules.
