This morning I was walking back from breakfast, and passed a big hole awaiting a future skyscraper. I pitied the poor bastards who had to work in the dusty, sun-blasted hole in these unusually hot temperatures.
Then I noticed the big excavator working nearby, and pitied the operator more. Surely he was cooking in that small, glass cubicle on top of all that hot machinery. Then I got to wondering…do construction vehicles have air conditioning? I noted the model number of the big machine, and checked when I got home.
As it turns out, they do. Or, at least air conditioning comes standard on the Caterpillar 345B L Series II UHD Hydraulic Excavator. So, my pity returns to the guys roaming around on the foundation floor again. All I’ve got to do is sit and sweat in front of a big glowing monitor.
My question is about construction crane operators, and not about AC but other amenities: it’s an awfully long trek down, so do they just use a bucket? If so, what’s the procedure for hauling it down for cleaning? I wouldn’t want to be below when it’s being brought down the ladder.
I Haul Heavyequipment. If the machine has a closed cab it has heat and AC it also has an air ride adjustable seat and AM-FM radio. Crane opperators take everything they need to spend the day they dont even come down for lunch ,and “what goes up must come down”.
I’m in South Texas. Everything you can imagine is air conditioned. And those construction guys… they need it. We move slowly down here in the south… for a reason.
I remember visiting my friend at his parents farm. He showed me their pride and joy a dual tractor. It was a monster but came better equiped then most sports cars at the time. AC, air ride, four speaker stereo etc.
Likely you will see a green porta-a-potty down there as well. If not…heck why use a bucket!
