Vancouver Gets BarCamptastic

A few weeks ago, I wandered into the Bryght offices at exactly the wrong moment. Roland, James and Andre were having a meeting about BarCamp Vancouver, and I got sucked into their orbits. I became one of the disorganizers of this unconference (aren’t we clever?). Here are the details:

Who?
Tech creatives: Local technologists, geeks, innovators, enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, tech writers, tech managers, and hangers-on. We can only accept ninety people, so register early.

What?
A 24-hour ad-hoc, all-play unconference where everyone who attends participates by presenting or helping out.

Where?
Bryght Offices, 1 Alexander St. (suite TBD); Gastown, Vancouver: Map

When?
Friday, August 25, 6:00pm to Saturday, August 26, 6:00pm

Why?
Because it’ll be a fun party and totally informative, all at the same time.

How Much?
Technically speaking, it’s free. We will be asking for a suggested donation of $20 from all participants to offset costs like food, drink and so forth.

It will follow in the tradition of all the other geeky BarCamps. Here’s the Wikipedia definition and here are a few of the 8527 Flickr photos of other events. If you’re related to the tech industry, and fancy an offbeat event, give it a try.

  1. No, that’s Gnomedex: all indoors, no windows, AC, free food and drink, and the only burning comes from notebook computers placed inopportunely on laps when rendering live-blogged video.
