I just read on Digg that Amanda Congdon, the magnetic host of RocketBoom, has left the show. Circumstances are vague as to what transpired, but this can’t be great news for the world’s most popular videoblog.
I think that people consume social media (blogs, podcasts et al) as much for the personalities as the information. That’s certainly true of me–I keep reading many blogs because of the person behind them, not because they’re writing about PR or pygmies or pants.
You can follow Amanda’s future (and, presumably, get the details on the RocketBoom fallout) at her blog UnBoomed.
One commenter on Digg remarked that ‘Something fishy about this – I call hoax’. He might be right, but I’m not sure it’s one that would ingratiate anybody.
Amanda seemed genuinely bummed when she announced on UNBoomed. So, yeah, I think it’s legit.
The email I sent her basically said what you’re saying… Andrew now owns 51% of nothing and she’s got 100% of UNBoomed and the viewers will follow her just about anywhere she goes (PodTech maybe!?)
She’ll do fine and for whatever Andrew’s reasons were… he loses.

As an aside: the reference to a Digg comment was unexpected. The inchoate ramblings that pass for discourse at Digg should have made it unworthy of mention. Slashdot (Digg with adult supervision) has this in the right context: they haven’t even mentioned Amanda’s departure.
I doubt I’d watch Rocketboom without Amanda. She was the real life in the podcast. The content is, frankly, just web trawling most of the time, and when it isn’t it’s hit and miss.
