As lots of folks reported (Tim, Paul and the Globe’s Geek Watch, to name three), local Web-databases-for-the-rest-of-us startup Dabble DB received a chunk of hard, cold cash from Vancouver’s Ventures West. From the Globe and Mail article:
Dabble DB was founded by Andrew Catton and Avi Bryant, two veteran programmers who are in their late 20s and hoping to ride the wave of enthusiasm about interactive Web-based applications known collectively as “Web 2.0.”
Their product — which, unlike many Web 2.0 offerings, already has paying customers — is an online database-creation application. Mr. Kedrosky describes it as a tool designed for people who are using Microsoft’s Excel spreadsheet “but for all the wrong things.”
Like lists. I think it’s hilarious when people use Excel to make single column lists. It’s like hiring a 747 to transport your pet ferret across town. What’s wrong with Notepad.exe? Or, you know, a notepad.
Regardless, the unfortunate thing is that I haven’t been able to access Dabble DB’s website for the last 24 hours or so. That’s a long time to have an outage, particularly when the world wants to come visit. Maybe some traffic is getting through–just not the likes of me. In the meantime, though, they ought to handle those 404 errors and throw up one of the Flickesque ‘Dabble DB is having a massage’ pages.
UPDATE: As the comments indicate, it is just the likes of me, or me and my immediate neighbours. Is anybody else out there using Novus as an ISP? Can you see anything at www.dabbledb.com?

We haven’t had any other outage reports, or noticed any ourselves (or any reason for one – our webserver was barely breaking a sweat yesterday).
So I’d like to find out what’s up… can you ping me with more info?
Weird. I haven’t experienced any issues with any other sites today, and I’ve definitely visited your site before. Here are more details:
1. I can’t access the site from either my Windows desktop or Apple laptop, using Firefox or IE on the desktop and Safari or Firefox on the laptop.
2. That suggests that it’s specific to my connection, which has otherwise been working fine today.
3. So, the next step up the chain is my ISP, which is Novus.
Yup – got through without any problems. I’m using Firefox on a PC desktop, and my ISP is Persona Internet.
I’m using Novus as well and also HAVE NOT been able to get onto DabbleDB since yesterday.
