Apparently a 12-year-old from Langley named Ryan Funk has collected the world’s biggest ball of hockey tape:
Ryan Funk is the kid behind the seven-foot-tall, 845-kilogram (1,862-pound) ball of used and new hockey tape, donated by thousands of individuals from 19 ice rinks across Canada. When the 12-year-old realized an American held the previous record – for a mere 240-pound ball – he figured he’d enlist help to enlarge the soccer ball-sized collection he’d made himself, and along the way raise money for Compassion Canada. His ball and a smaller one donated by Vancouver Canucks players will be auctioned off on eBay to further help the cause.
The Canucks, of course, didn’t need their tape (they did get a new head coach today, though).
Free hug for anybody who can locate a photo of this magic ball of hockey tape–I did a qucik search and came up empty.
The Langley paper had a link, so I consulted the official site. It sounds like they haven’t actually built the ball yet.
Good find. Hmm…indeed, though the Gazette article makes it sound like it’s already done. Weird.
So I clicked that offical site link that Andrea posted and saw your 404 page for the first time.
‘Gahhh!’
Heh. I fixed that link.
The ball has been built — you can see it in the background of the picture on the official site’s home page and you can see it in the news clip on that site as well.
hey man great job on the tape ball!! I love hockey do you..? well any way can you send me a pic of the huge 1,000lb. ball.
thanks,,
My husband and I were personally involved in helping fund, create it and finish the program. I have countless of pictures, the original radio information, pictures form the day it was weighed, and a full write up of it should anyone require it. The money went towards building homes for kids in Africa under the Compassion Canada Umbrella and if you go their web page you can see it. I also made a short video of what we did if anyone is seriously interested you can contact me at julie@vestaproperties.com.
Some genuinely interesting info, nicely written and broadly user pleasant.
