SFU New Media Workshops

I’ve been meaning to blog about this for a while, but it keeps slipping my mind. I’m the pitcher (meaning, the lousiest hitter–easy on the gay slang) in an all-star batting order of new media types who are guest speakers for SFU’s New Media Summer Workshop:

The web’s tumultuous first decade is history, and we’re now watching the rise of a new online zeitgeist. Whether you call it Web 2.0, cooperative technologies, or the Internet as platform, you’ll want to know what it means for you, your work, and your audiences.

The list of speakers includes Will, Travis, Kris, Robert, Susie and a bunch more people.

  1. It would be nice to see some of these things being offered virtually. They’re all still very local(east coast or west coast)like Greg Galant’s Venture Voice thing June 26 in Manhattan. It’s kind of weird to be so parochial given the global community we inhabit. It’s also a drag for those of us still stuck pretty far from everyone else involved in this type of thing.

  2. Thanks for the post Darren.

I agree with Shawn that it would be great to have virtual offerings of these courses. I don’t think it’s possible for this year, but it would be interesting to look at ways to do it. Stanford offers a bunch of courses virtually. I took one on copyright. The experience wasn’t too bad but it required a bit of awkward tech setup.

Anyone taken courses where this has worked successfully?

  3. My deepest apologies – I will not be able to participate in the SFU summer workshop series. Flock my availablity has changed as Flock needs me elsewhere at the same time. I’m truly sorry and wish everyone a wonderful time.
