In December, I wrote about a fantastic three-minute French ad promoting AIDS awareness and sexual responsibility. I recently happened upon a new ad by the same artist, and it has a similar gorgeous style and whimsical spirit. If you work in a particularly prudish work environment, this might qualify as unsafe for work:
The French Make the Best AIDS Awareness Ads

I didn’t find this ad very amusing… the style and graphics are very nice but the theme is sort of weird.
But maybe I just don’t have a sense of humour.
That is outstanding — and yet I think it is the wrong (or, at least, only partly the right) message.
I found it fascinating to watch the various stereotypes being introduced before the quintessential stereotype at the end though they did, of course, lead up to the logical conclusion and the slogan. There have been various reports about an upsurge in unprotected sex in the homosexual community so the message is possibly appropriate.
But … HIV/AIDS is not, worldwide, exclusively (or, even, predominantly) an aspect of the gay/lesbian communities. It is a part of all sexual liasons. As the old saw goes: when you sleep with a new partner you sleep with everyone your new partner ever slept with.
These are, however, but minor cavils. I think the message is communicated. I hope that some of the target audience reads your blog, Darren, and comments on the vid.
The only potentially “off-putting” item is the music. Very 60’s. I like it but others with more contemporary sensibilities might not.
JohnB, the point of these ads is that they’re a serie, the previous one (http://www.boardsmag.com/screeningroom/commercials/1683/) was on straight sex, and conveyed the same message (live long enough to find the right one => protect yourself).
I saw the hetero one, and I liked them both. Do they make one for lesbians?
when the lesbians find a use for condoms, they surely will 😀
