The World Cup is finally here, and it opened with a cracker of a goal. I watched the first half of the first game–Germany vs. Costa Rica–and it was a very entertaining 45 minutes of football.
In case anybody is wondering, I ended up selecting Ivory Coast as my team of choice. As a couple people suggested, I picked an African country.
An important note: For the love of all that’s holy and bright, do not phone, email or comment regarding the outcome of a game. I’m recording games to watch later on, and I want to avoid learning a game’s outcome if I can.
Good choice on the team there Darren. I hope they’ll do well but they are in a tough group. Ghana have it slightly easier but have a suspect defence and this tournament will be hard on them as the Germans saw today.
Indeed, a tough group, but I’m optimistic.
I don’t mean to be a big Football Queen, but as a case in point, even vague assertions of game results are verboten. I haven’t watched the second half of the German game, so I don’t actually know the outcome.
Opps sorry about that. I meant that part of the comment in a general sense but I’ll be more careful.
I thought I warned you not to root for a team in Argentina’s group. Nice little page you got here…would be a shame if something were to *happen* to it…(breaks random furniture accidentally on purpose)
No worries, Andy. I should have specified that I hadn’t seen the second half (which, as it turned out, also kicked ass).
C’mon Darren — you probably spend close on 50% of your time on internet activities === how can you possibly believe that you won’t know the outcome of the game until you watch the tape?
I’m sure that when you wake up you’ll quickly digest the score(s)s in the latest world cup match(es)..
spain will do well this time. Italy look the best best, Brazil won’t do a Sweden 58 again. Italy or the Czechs.
People who spill spoilers should be tarred and feathered, hate when that happens.
Bobby: Quite right, I don’t like my necessarily like my chances. That said, I managed to go the whole day (and attend a local football game) without learning the Germany–Costa Rica result, so it might be possible. However, it’s unlikely to happen consistently.
“spain will do well this time.”
Their manager doesn’t know their best midfield 4 yet, he changed htem all at half time in their final friendly. I fancy Spain to go out early, potentially in the group stages.
Re supporting Ghana, I find it difficult to see them or the USA getting out of a group with Italy and the Czech Republuc in it, both excellent sides that should be in the last eight.
DAE HAN MIN GOOK!!!
Chris: go out early?!? I’ll eat my hat. At least the quarterfinals for them. The class in their midfield is unsurpassed (Alonso, Xavi, Iniesta, etc)…friendlies all change their squads about. I don’t like the racist coach, but Spain are one of the 4-5 best teams there in terms of personnel.
The Czechs are gonna slaughter the yanks, I hope, agreed on the Ghana thing.
