Is a New Temple Opening in Vancouver?

Vancouver must represent one of the highest densities of Apple Cultists unserved by an Apple Temple, I mean Shrine I mean Store. Derek Miller writes that the iFruity gods may bestow a store on us, the unworthy, at the corner of Granville and Dunsmuir:

The speculation over where Apple will open a Vancouver (Canada) retail store is focusing sharply on the downtown Pacific Centre area. The Centre itself is operated by Cadillac Fairview, the same company that has handled mall leasing for all the other known Apple retail stores. The multi-block, retail-office complex is the target for 8.5 million visitors a year, many from Asia, and is within a circle of big name hotels. The Centre would provide space only for an standard-size retail store, however, which is not consistent with the city’s location or size. But where would Apple install a street-level store, maybe even a flagship? Right now the focus is on two spaces at the intersection of Granville and Dunsmuir Streets, just across from Pacific Centre, and adjacent to The Hudson, a huge new retail-office development.

For those preferring a bird’s eye view, that puts the new Apple store right about here. Should we grind up an iPod Shuffle and sprinkle the remains over the hallowed ground?

  1. Granville and Dunsmuir, eh? There’s a large open space on the North-East corner that used to be CIBC, but it’s probably too big to hold a Mac store. I’ve heard rumours that either a Gap or a Shoppers Drug Mart is going in there, but there’s still a “for lease” sign on it.

  2. Rather than grinding up the shuffle, we should just bury a Lucky Click Wheel at centre ice, er, centre retail.

Keep in mind that the site doesn’t have much to back up the Granville and Dunsmuir claim, just deduction based on some pretty sketchy words from Cadillac Fairview and the obvious point that having Apple Stores in Toronto and probably Calgary would make not having one in Vancouver rather silly.

For now, the closest one is in Lynnwood, Wash, a little over an hour away with good border traffic. And damn straight I’ve been there.
