Last month, I mentioned Beyond Robson, a nascent site about Vancouver. It’s now officiallly launched, and here’s the spiel:
Beyond Robson is a web site about Vancouver culture. We cover music, film, the arts, fashion, food, tech, sports, people, politics and places. This is a blog. We invite you to post comments, disagree with us, flatter us and otherwise tell us what you think.
I checked out a few entries, and the tone is a bit hipper-than-thou. All the bloggers feel like the The Cool Kids on Main Street. Neither Beyond Robson nor Urban Vancouver have achieved the diversity of voices which should typify a city-wide site like this.
I traded emails with the site’s publisher, Tim Shore. I was a little suspicious because the site was registered in Toronto, where Tim lives. As a Vancouverite, I’m naturally suspicous of everything east of the Rockies. He does own the site (he was also involved in Navigate the Streets and has a Toronto blog site), but has west coast people running it.
I’d offer my reviews of punk rock shows, interviews with same, and crazy indie films to anyone that would have them, but hipsters don’t return my emails 😀
You know, it’s funny that we’re getting called hipsters because I don’t think any of us are. There isn’t even one entry in the Fashion & Style category and the music and art entries are all about music and art and not who was there and what they were wearing.
