I sit on the board of directors of the First Vancouver Theatre Society, the goofily-named organization which runs the Vancouver Fringe Festival and Festival Box Office. You, my dear readers, are among the first to see this year’s Fringe poster and brochure artwork (click for a larger version):
I think it’s pretty groovy.
For the first time in a few years, the Fringe is running a fun(d) raising Preview Party:
At the Preview Party, the audience will see sneak previews of upcoming Fringe shows and then meet performers from all over the world afterwards for appies and drinks. Advance tickets for the Preview Party will be available from Festival Box Office starting August 15th.
There’s going to be a silent auction at the party, and I’m soliciting you folks for donations. We’d be looking for a donation of products or services, from the cheap to the really expensive. We’ll take anything that would likely appeal to the public. For example, I’ve already gotten a jewelry designer friend of mine to donate a bracelet, and an interior designer to donate five hours of consulting. In return, you receive:
- Recognition in the programme for the Preview Party.
- 2 tickets to the Preview Party
- Plaque describing who donated the item on the auction table.
- Space to display brochures, business cards, etc. at the auction
- Tax receipts may be available if the fair market value of the item can be accessed.
Between the tax receipt and the promotional opportunity, I think it’s a pretty decent return on a donation of this kind. If you’ve got something in mind, let me know.
I should also mention that the Fringe Festival is looking for volunteers, as well as billets for performers (I hear actors are easy, so that’s a plus). Lastly, if you’re interested in reading some performers’ blogs, check out the links in the bottom-right corner of the Fringe Festival’s home page.

I kind of thought you guys were crazy for not continuing with Wasserman (not that I loved last year’s concept), but it looks like it worked out.
And yeah, I’ll offer up some design services. I’ll email you.
