Statler and Waldorf at the Movies

Movies.com has a new viral marketing campaign that features those Muppet Show balcony curmudgeons, Statler and Waldorf. They’re kind of amusing–I actually laughed out loud once, at Waldorf’s crack after the War of the Worlds trailer.

I was also surprised that the reviews weren’t all positive–Statler says of Bewitched: “It’s one of those rare instances where art imitates, oh, I don’t know, something horrible.”

My only complaint? No RSS feed, so I can’t know when the next episode is launched.

  1. It’s worse than no RSS: you can get email alerts, but it’s registration-required. Apparently they don’t *want* people following along…

  2. My husband and I laughed at the clip this weekend, but both felt the voices were nothing like the originals.

Incidentally, Statler & Waldorf were brothers-in-law. Waldorf’s wife, Astoria, was Statler’s sister.

  3. On the note that the voices are off, there’s been a changing of the guard lately in Muppet voices. I’ve noticed that Frank Oz’ voice isn’t present in the latest Muppet movie, although he still starred as Yoda in the latest Star Wars.

  4. I watched about five minutes and gave up. Didn’t find it particularly funny, the voices bugged me…all in all it seemed like a shameless attempt to cash in on my childhood (yes, *another one*).
