As you’ve probably heard, they’ve made a Dukes of Hazzard movie, starring Seann William Scott, Johnny Knoxville, Burt Reynolds and (I threw up a little in my mouth just typing this name) Jessica Simpson. Here’s the trailer, courtesy of The Movie Blog.
Not only has Hollywood run out of ideas, but they’ve apparently lost touch with financial reality. They chose to remake another seventies show despite the box office failures of Shaft, Starsky and Hutch and The Mod Squad?
They are somewhat reasonable about their expectations, though. They’ve scheduled the release of this dog in August–the month movies go to die.
Not that I have plans to see it, but Dukes might stand a better chance. It came out in September 1979, meaning it’s more of an 80s movie. Even people born in the late 70s had a chance to watch it when its popularity peaked around 1983. And it’s in reruns on TBS, so younger people have seen it too. The movie may reach an audience that is not yet overloaded with raising kids and working management hours.
hey, the red states beat the blue states for the president’s office and Pixar is coming out with some NASCAR-inspired movie called “Cars”. this might be the year of the meshback…
I’m just sitting here laughing myself silly at “I threw up a little in my mouth.”
Heh. I know the feeling.
APPARENTLY lost touch with financial reality?
If some exec can greenlight “Baby Geniuses 2”, then anything is possible. Was there *really* a big public outcry for that?
I suspect the studio is counting less on the Dukes’ cachet than Jessica Simpson’s…
