Even before I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark, I wanted to be an archaeologist. I haven’t gotten around to it yet. The ignorant notion that everything interesting had been found held me back then and now. Clearly, that’s not the case, as they recently dug up a 2300-year old mummy outside of Cairo:
The unidentified mummy, from the 30th pharaonic dynasty, had been closed in a wooden sarcophagus and buried in sand at the bottom of a 20-foot shaft before being discovered recently by an Egyptian-led archaeological team.
“We have revealed what may be the most beautiful mummy ever found in Egypt,” Zahi Hawass, chief of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, said as he helped excavators remove the sarcophagus’ lid to show off the find.
So there may still be hope for a second (third? fourth?) career as a stuffy, dusty archaeologist.

Last night on the evening news (US) they did the mummy story and at the end Brian Williams said these words (close anyway)) … “Archaeologists agree, that is serious mummy bling”. I couldn’t believe it, he actually used the word bling — on the evening news — referring to ancient artifacts.
Anthropologists/archaologists are still finding all sorts of neat shit, too. Look at the hobbit’s they found on that island recently… cool shit, man. 🙂
