A Life in the Theatre

As David Mamet said, “a life in the theatre is a life spent giving things away”. That’s true, I think, both literally and metaphorically. James, author of Up in Ontario (the book and the blog), sent along these great videos from the American Theatre Wing.

The American Theatre Wing’s panel discussion series brings together performers, directors, playwrights, designers, choreographers and behind-the-scenes personnel from the Broadway theatre.

I watched this one (Real video) on performance, which included Brenda Blethyn among other veteran Broadway actresses. I was really impressed with the quality of the discussion–it really provided a detailed yet accessible look into these women’s craft. I was also impressed by the video quality. It’s Real video, which is unfortunate, but it’s not the usual postage stamp frame. It’s actually quite large, and very crisp. On top of that, there was none of the usual ‘buffering’ nonsense.
