Brooks Duncan writes with a new project he’s launched:
I know that like myself you’re a big fan of Ask Metafilter. I love that site but one thing I have always thought to myself is “I wish there was a Vancouver version of it so I could ask local-type questions that wouldn’t be boring/annoying to the rest of the world”. I thought that enough times that I decided to do something about it.
It’s online at http://vancouver.asklocally.com. I figure if there is demand, it could be rolled out to other cities as well. The content is kind of light right now (since it just “went live” tonight), but hopefully once the word gets out it will grow.
Seems like a good idea to me. Right now there’s just a query about where to get good Indian food in Vancouver. I posed a question about the future of the athlete’s village for the 2010 Olympics. I also asked where to buy Moleskine products locally, as a reader posted that question in my comments.
Maybe Brooks should hook up with those UrbanVancouver dudes–they need (and I think they’d agree with me) to get their content consistently better.
It’s not “our” content — it’s your content! That is, it’s all about what people enter.
We’ve recently had some problems with spam/SEO, which is perhaps what you’re referring to. That will always be the case in any system, so we just need to keep an eye on it.
AskLocally looks like fun. It’s got an RSS feed, so we’ll pull that content into UV as well.
Darren, thanks for posting my question about moleskines in Vancouver on that site. Now I just have to find time to check out all those locations!
I’d love to know where to go for a big selction of moleskines
Thanks for the link Darren and I’m glad it helped you out Denny!
