Uncyclopedia

You know you’ve arrived when they start satirizing you. So it is for Wikipedia, with the amusing Uncyclopedia (they might have thought of a more clever name). Here’s an entry on Newton (both the guy and the failed Apple product):

It was released light years ahead of its time as demonstrated by its ability to translate handwritten text into the true thoughts and intentions of its user i.e. the handwritten appointment “Pick up dry cleaning” might be replaced by the digitized text “Strangle neighbor’s dog”. All calendar entries would be instantly converted to “Masturbate with conviction”.

You may not be contributing Earth’s arcana, but this encylopedia looks to be more fun. I’m reminded of that quote from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy:

The Encyclopedia Galactica used to be the standard repository of all knowledge and wisdom in the universe. That is, until the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy came along. The Guide scores higher that the Encyclopedia in two respects. First, the Guide is slightly cheaper; and second, it has the words “Don’t Panic” inscribed in large, friendly letters on the cover.

I think Wikipedia is safe for the moment, though it could do with a friendlier home page.
