Back in December, I complained that there weren’t any good theatre blogs. Several people made suggestions. Among them were Paul Miller, who plugged his own blog, My London Life. He’s a theatre director from Chelsea, currently in Japan directing a show.
His blog is exacly what I was looking for–in-depth, thoughtful writing about making theatre:
There was some really fine acting. I now feel that there’s the possibility that the actors will embody the style of the staging and not be dominated by it. There’s a Dexter-y epic quality to the mise-en-scene which I had been worrying would cancel out, or preclude, humane acting. This is no longer the case.
It’s been particularly interesting, as Miller is a bit of a fish-out-of-water in Japan. There are other theatre blogs I read (you can find them on the right-hand link list under ‘Arts’), but this is one that I’ve really enjoyed.
