Tennis Courts SMS Scandal

Here’s an idea that courts disaster (via Engadget):

Tennis fans could send messages to players via screens on court if plans by mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson come to fruition.

The company signed an $88 million six-year sponsorship deal with the women’s game last month under which the WTA Tour will be renamed the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour. It is the largest contract in the history of tennis and women’s sport.

Estimated time before someone texts “Maria, take it all off!”: 4.6 seconds. In truth, I’m sure they’ll have somebody vetting the content before it gets displayed. That person should save the best lines, and publish them somewhere: “Unprintable Messages to the Tennis Gliterati”.

UPDATE: Nobody is going to believe me, but I honestly wrote that headline without recognizing the obvious and awful pun. I think the repetition of ‘courts’ in the first line backs up my claim. They’re setting a special place in Hell for me, at a table with Oscar Wilde and Ron MacLean. Well, those guys are good, intentional punners, so I’m not sure who’d I be with.

  1. Inadvertent puns? Oh, I understand. I make them all the time. I just laugh and say “Isn’t the subconscious a wonderful thing!”

  2. I make them all the time, sometimes accidentally, and when I do and folks find it funny I congratulate myself on my outstanding wit and move on.

Pee Wee Herman said it best:

    “I meant to do that”
