Conservative Party Leadership Candidates and Their Websites

I was recently reading a conservative website and was reminded of my Clement-Harper-Stronach Issues Matrix, and how I took a particular interest in the Conservative Party’s leadership race. That drove me to check out the status of the candidate’s websites:

  • Belinda Stronach – Back in January, 2004, I wrote in praise of Ms. Stronach’s site design. It was a bit Martha Stewartesque, but it was far and away the best of the three candidates. Belinda.ca is pretty conventional now–the average MP’s site.
  • Stephen Harper – I guess since he’s become opposition leader, he doesn’t need www.oneconservativevoice.ca anymore. It now, strangely, redirects to a site selling inkjet cartridges. Is Mr. Harper making a little referral cash on the side?
  • Tony Clement – Mr. Clement’s site has, by far, turned out the weirdest. Visit www.tonyclement.com (caution, Turkish children singing ahead) and you’ll see that it’s apparently been hacked by the “DARK NETWORK HACK TEAM”. Why would somebody bother hacking the third-place candidate in a party leadership race? Regardless, if I recall the awfulness that was the original site, they’ve made a significant improvement.
