CD Ripping Service Reviewed

A while back, I mentioned RipDigital, a service which converts your CD collection to MP3 format. Via Gizmodo, here’s a thorough review of dmp3, a competing service. One advantage of dmp3’s approach is that a technician actually comes and collects your CDs, and later drops them off.

Daniel took the CDs, and within 24 hours sent a follow-up email to Ron. In this email, Daniel clearly identified the various genres of music that comprised Ron’s collection (and even gave Ron the opportunity to make changes, in case Ron preferred to use different or more specific genres than the standard said, such as “Acid Jazz” and “Fusion Jazz” instead of just “Jazz”). He also outlined the next few steps of the process, and asked Ron to have a few things prepped before his return.

Here’s dmp3’s hard-to-find home page (their home page doesn’t show up for queries like ‘dmp3’ or ‘dmp3 CD ripping’). If I hadn’t wasted valuable hours ripping my own collection a couple of years ago, I’d be signing up.
