Kids Got No Respect

Via BoingBoing, we find the second annual edition of Child’s Play, where-in 10 and 11-year-olds play and mock classic video games.

Donkey Kong is “lame.” Tetris is “boring.” Space Invaders “needs a superbomb or something.” And why play Pong when it’s more fun to “jump up and down on one foot”? The nostalgia-nuking commentary is from EGM’s November 2003 issue, in which we had kids of the PlayStation generation playtest classic games from the ’70s and ’80s.

Man, the writer who wrote “nostalgia-nuking” neeeds to be digged and dugged. Regardless, it’s a pretty amusing feature. My favourite exchange is in regards to the classic vector-line Star Wars arcade game:

EGM: Are the TIE fighters scary?

Anthony: No. It feels like they’re trying to give me flowers.

He’s right, they do.

  1. I got one of those C64 joysticks for Christmas, and everyone is laughing at the graphic and sound quality. But the games are far more diverse than those available today and I’m still having fun!
