That sounds kind of dirty–as if I had a liaison with some kind of pink superhero. Last week I received an email from this site which I originally took to be spam. It read, in part:
We have added your Web site to the http://www.gaycrawler.com database. GayCrawler.com is a search engine entirely devoted to the GLBT communities. We invite you to review your site’s description. Feel free to suggest any corrections and/or to add a reciprocal link to us. Reciprocal linking not only increases link popularity rankings within search engines but also allows more Internet users to discover both our sites.
Well, it’s borderline spam. Technically speaking, it’s a legitimate notification of inclusion in their site, so that’s fair enough. Has anybody else received these emails?
Presumably (given my straightness) I’ve been indexed because of the whole Flowers for Al and Don thing. Still, I’m not sure that should qualify me for GayCrawler.
Tip to the GayCrawler folks: make like the other search engines and provide a unique URL for your search results. Another tip: only geeks like me understand the usage of the term ‘crawl’ in reference to search engines. Normal people are going to think you’re a nightclub in Vancouver’s West End.

huh, I’d think that “crawl” is a pretty generic term for search engines. One of the first search engines I remember, back when I was 14 and ignorant of All Things Internet, was WebCrawler. I don’t remember being confused. 🙂
