I’m a geek, so I feel okay discussing this particularly geeky thing. I’m a GM in the Canucks Newsgroup Hockey League (the CNGHL). It’s an extraordinarily detailed hockey simulation based on this sim engine. There are no graphics mind you. Each day, the guy who runs the league ‘sims’ the day’s games and posts the results.
When I say extraordinarily detailed, I mean it. You have to manage injuries, player salaries, coaches and ticket prices. Fortunately, the CNGHL has a salary cap, so there’s none of that union/player squabbling that hampers the NHL.
My team is the Monkstown Muck Savages (a pejorative term for Irish people from the country) and we are awful. If you check out the standings, we’re 16th in a 20-team league. As the cliche goes, we’re in a rebuilding phase. Our minor league affiliate, the Bog Munchers, are doing considerably better.
Regardless, we’re looking for a GM to handle ongoing duties with the Dublin Fighting Irish. In terms of commitment, it’s probably a few minutes every day to check scores and manage rosters as necessary. If you’re interested, leave a comment and I’ll pass your name and email address along.
Alas, I should probably focus on my last place OHL pool team.
Same here: I’m focussing on my first-place GBHL (Great Beer Hockey League, which also uses FHLSim) fantasy team, The Puffins.
