Last week I wrote about how Deutscher Sprachrat institute had selected Habseligkeiten as the most beautiful word in the German language. In that entry, I said that I wanted to be able to demonstrate what it sounded like. Fortunately, Roland Tanglao created his first podcast (MP3, 1:13, 1.7 MB) (What’s a podcast?) and discusses this very topic. He suggests several alternatives, none of which I can really pronounce. Unsurprisingly, they all relate to food. I do like the last word, which is some pork dish and sounds like Schweinhaxen (anybody want to correct that?).

Schweinhaxen is it!
And the best place to enjoy it is at Andechs.

Being a native Bavarian I have to correct you: It’s ‘Schweinshaxen’ 🙂
Cheers.
