The Conference Bike

Fresh from the pages of Slashdot (and, probably because the east coast is asleep, it’s not even Slashdotted), we find the Conference Bike. It’s a seven-person tricycle (or is it a quadricycle–one ‘end’ has two wheels next to each other), where one person steers and the other people pedal, enjoy the view or actually get something done. I don’t see any whiteboards or laptop ports, but it apparently is designed for corporate teambuilding and promises to be “a party on wheels!” It better be for 9500 euros (about CAN $15,000). It also claims to be “a way for the blind to bike in Dublin”. I don’t even recommend biking in Dublin to the sighted.

The thing I do like about the site is the sense of whimsey it has. In particular, the video (MOV, 7.5 MB) has this great music from, what, the forties? I’ve heard its like in old Tom and Jerry cartoons. All that weird choral work creeps me out, though.

  1. Is this what they use in the Big Bike Ride for the Heart & Stroke Foundation? I seem to recall sponsoring a corporate team a few years back. I sure hope the bikes didn’t cost #9500 each for the H&S Foundation, although I suppose it might work if they move them from city to city.
