Job of the Week: Junior Spam Analyst

Sophos, a local anti-spam company, is seeking a junior spam analyst (c’mon, folks, get some levity and just call it a ‘spamalyst’) to add to their team:

As a Spam Analyst, you will monitor ongoing spam campaigns to generate data for filtering and report production to assist in the development of new filtering technology. You are an early adopter, a creative problem solver, and want to be part of building some of the coolest software around.

This is the online equivalent of the film censors who spend most of their day watching porn. I can just hear the conversations down in the Spamalytics department:

ROOKIE: Hey, uh, sir, I think we’ve got a new traffic spike here.
BOSS: Really, what’s the campaign?
ROOKIE: Uh, it’s, uh…ThroatStuffers.com. There’s this guy, and he’s…
BOSS: Ah, no, we caught that last week. Keep looking.

I see that Sophos is also looking for a Manager of Technical Writing, should anybody be inclined. Actually, they’ve got a great location–580 Granville Street. Are they an ActiveState spin-off or something?

  1. Yeah, a good friend of mine is one of the lead developers on thier spam-filtering software, PureMessage. He says that the Sophos takeover didn’t change too much – they’ve still got the fooseball table, and the hottub on the roof.
