Curious Email From Expedia

I was slightly confused by an automated email I received from Expedia.

Subject: IMPORTANT – Flight schedule update
From: support@service.expedia.ca
Date: Thu, September 30, 2004 9:19 am

Dear Expedia.ca customer,

Alaska Airlines has notified us of an update to your flight itinerary for your Reno, NV, United States trip. Your flight from Vancouver (YVR) to Seattle (SEA) on September 30, 2004 will now depart 1 hour and earlier than previously scheduled. The new departure time is 8:00 AM and the arrival time is now 8:55 AM. The flight number has also changed, the new flight number is Alaska Airlines 2279.

That’s handy. They emailed me 30 minutes after the plane was supposed to touch down. Fortunately, I caught an earlier flight anyway, but I found it kind of amusing. This is the first weirdness I’ve experienced from Expedia, which has otherwise been reliable.

  1. These schedule change emails are automated emails sent out by the airline reservation system when the vendor (ie. the airline) makes any change to your reservation in their system. Unfortunately, the airlines send schedule change notices from a queue, not from an individual file, so depending on how many files are already waiting to be sent, they don’t always send the notification in time. This is why you should always contact the airline to reconfirm your flights at least 24 hours prior to departure, but no more than 48 hours.

Expedia can’t give you information before they have it. Sucky, but true.

Sirs: I trust you can pull this Email out of your files which is self-explanatory as I have a credit with of
$285.20 (per passenger)for Harry/Stanley and Harry/Shirley as explained in this Email reference. I
have talked to (1) Olivia (2) Henry (3)
Kai & (4) Max. Last night at about 10PM,your time, I talked to Max & explained all this to him in detail & he
faithfully assured me, after he talked to United Airlines-he would definitely
get back to me at (250)248-5022 last nite or at the latest to-night Jan 14th/08. I have been working on this since about January 4th or so with no results. Every time I bring my file up it comes us “DONALD BOSSERT”, the original
booker. If you can’t help me now-forget it & you & United can share the money.
You can be assured Shirley & I will never deal with Expedia or United Airlines again. We are 80 years old, so you probably don’t care…….
